After several attempts to see the rare and elusive Iberian Wolf over the past 7 years, today we were fortunate to see at least four for nearly 2 hours. We went with a local guide at 6.30 am and climbed to nearly 5250 feet in the wild mountains north of Reina, where we settled into a makeshift hide of bushes. It was still dark as we sat in our portable chairs and watched the dawn arrive. After about 45 minutes the first young Wolf appeared and then two of its siblings! At least one adult appeared later. As we watched for two hours, we also saw Wryneck, Middle-spotted Woodpecker, Pied and Spotted Flycatcher, Iberian Green Woodpecker, Redstart, Red-billed Chough and huge flocks of migrating Mistle Thrush. Photographs of Wolves and mountain range below.
