Cool start to January

January 2017 was dominated by cold weather systems and the coastal habitat was uninviting for many birds and especially passerines! A small party of 4 White-fronted Geese on the 5th was a good record, as was a Raven behind the house on the 21st. On that day, a pair of Peregrine Falcons sat on the cliffs and watched at least a dozen pairs of Fulmars that have returned to breed already. A good number of Red-throated Divers (36) were on the sea on the 21st. Songbirds were disappointing and only a Rock Pipit on the 15th brightened things up! Seabirds included a small number of Guillemots, Gannets and 2 Mediterranean Gulls. A total of 50 Species were recorded during the month.
