Setting out at first light, we were hoping for an eastern rarity, after the cold easterly winds that have been blowing for the past few days. The morning started well with an adult winter Little Gull on the beach and sea, then 2 Little Egrets flew south close along the shore. In our back garden Goldfinches have started to arrive in force!
As we walked by the castle a bird flew up in front of us and banked left - a superb and rather gorgeous Woodcock. On the freedown we found 2 Firecrests and as we headed back we added 2 House Martin, 15 Swallow, 375 Brent Goose, 5 Eurasian Wigeon and a Shelduck.
