May saw the arrival of warmer weather and with it good numbers of migrants. May 7th saw the return of our resident Common Swifts - 8 in total and on the same days as last year! On the sea 3 Sandwich Terns and a Whimbrel headed North.

May 8th, turned up 2 Lesser Whitethroats, a nice spring Whinchat,3 House Martin , 6 Chiffchaff, 12 Blackcap, a single Sanderling and best of all a single Black Tern flying north late afternoon.
Smart fresh spring plumage Hobbies arrived in off the sea early morning on the 13th and 14th. These days also saw the arrival of a single Spotted Flycatcher, more Common Whitethroat (15) and good numbers of Swallows and House Martins. The spring's second Tree Pipit landed briefly before heading inland on the 14th.
As the month progressed, tern numbers improved and on the 19th 2 Common Terns were offshore. The following day an Arctic Tern was seen late afternoon, heading north. The month ended on a year to date total of 113 species.
